CEO of Rexpharm.Corp
Dr. Young-Soon Park, Ph.D. in Pharmacy,
Dr. Young-Soon Park, the CEO of Rexpharm.Corp is a pioneer who established the Onnuri Pharmacy chain in 1990, which was the first in Korea to transform traditional pharmacies, previously focused only on pharmaceuticals, into a total healthcare pharmacy. These pharmacies began offering not only pharmaceuticals but also herbal medicines, health supplements, cosmetics, and everyday goods.
In 1997, Dr. Park founded Rexgene Biotech, a health supplement company, which became the first of its kind to be listed on KOSDAQ.
In 2001, as the door to gene-based disease treatments began to open in the United States, Dr. Park established Rexahn Pharmaceuticals in Rockville, Maryland, with the aim of developing side-effect-free cancer treatments.
In 2005, Dr. Park established Kyungdeok, an agricultural corporation, in Jeju to cultivate organic green tea, with the goal of obtaining catechins, which have the best antioxidant effects.
Moreover, during the global pandemics of SARS (2002), MERS (2015), and COVID-19 (2019), Dr. Park foresaw that viral diseases would threaten human health due to global warming. In response, he established a company in 2021 dedicated to producing beta-glucan to enhance immunity against these viruses.
Now, with the advent of a super-aged society, Dr. Park aims to contribute to the
improvement of human health by producing health products that help prevent diabetes, cancer, and cardiovascular diseases, which commonly arise with aging.
Thank you.

Rexpharm and URBAN LABS Sign MOU for Joint Development of Coffee Grounds Processing Materials
We will do our utmost to promptly address any inquiries you may have
Rexpharm (CEO Park Young-sun) and URBAN LABS (CEO Kim Sun-hyun) have recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to establish a collaborative framework for the joint development of coffee grounds processing materials.
Through this MOU, the two companies plan to pursue the following initiatives:
Rexpharm, known for its expertise in extracting beta-glucan and useful components from mushrooms through reishi mushroom cultivation, possesses three 4-ton extraction concentrators and a 15-ton fermentation tank at its food cluster facility in Iksan. They have partnered with URBAN LABS, which has been researching the extraction of useful components from coffee grounds that were previously discarded after coffee extraction. The collaboration aims to develop alternative ingredients from coffee grounds applicable across the food sector.
URBAN LABS focuses on ESG-based development of alternative proteins from coffee grounds, contributing to carbon neutrality through food tech. They were selected for the TIPS (Tech Incubator Program for Startups) by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups in 2023.
Under this agreement, Rexpharm will leverage its specialized fermentation and extraction production facilities, while URBAN LABS will contribute its technical expertise. Together, they will research, develop, and produce food upcycling processing materials, including coffee grounds.
Chairman Park Young-sun of Rexpharm commented, “In the future, companies must always consider environmental and social impacts in their research and technology development. We are excited about collaborating with URBAN LABS, which has valuable expertise in recycling coffee grounds and developing eco-friendly solutions.”
CEO Kim Sun-hyun of URBAN LABS said, “We expect that our collaboration with Rexpharm will enable us to extract proteins and other useful substances from coffee grounds, and optimize the technology and processes for mass production.”
The two companies anticipate that their collaboration will significantly advance ESG-based food upcycling alternative ingredient development and generate substantial synergy. By extracting valuable components from food by-products like coffee grounds, they aim to enhance the added value of food products and contribute to resource recycling and sustainability.
